Catastrophe struck the Bethelsdorp family when a gunshot went off in a room of a house in Extension 31.

 It is alleged that the event took place yesterday, 11 August 2022, at around 13:00 and 14:00 when two 6-year-old boys and a 5-year-old girl were playing with a firearm. As dangerous and nerve wrecking as it sounds, it did not take long for the firearm to go off, going through the 5-year-old girl’s head. 

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the person responsible, was actually the 6-year-old boy who turned out to be her older brother. He apparently shot her with a 38 revolver. She continued to say that the child was rushed to hospital by ambulance but sadly passed last night because of her critical condition. 

A case of defeating the ends of justice and culpable homicide have been opened by Bethelsdorp SAPS. 

It is also alleged that when the police arrived at the crime scene, the gun was removed and it had disappeared. And a case of defeating the ends of justice has been opened to further the investigations. 

More charges may be added and arrests effected as the investigation unfolds.
