Illegal immigration has always been a source of contention in South Africa. Recently, there has been debate among South Africans about whether to provide service delivery to foreign nationals or to deport them.

The majority of South Africans believe that foreign nationals are the driving force behind the majority of illegal activities or crimes. Others believe that South Africans are not blameless in this situation.

A recent event in Gauteng supports the criticism levelled by South Africans against foreign nationals.

A Mozambican national working at the Mayibuye Tembisa food store is accused of breaking into the safe and stealing an R 200 000 ransom. According to reports, the mysterious man fled, leaving everything inside the room he was renting. It is also claimed that he fled to his home country immediately after stealing the money.

South Africans did not sympathize with the store’s owner; instead, they dismissed the owner for hiring foreign nationals. They also called on the police not to get involved in such unfortunate events, claiming that they have more important things to worry about than something that could have been avoided by hiring a South African national.
