Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a 12 year old girl

A 26 year old man accused of raping a 12 year old has been found guilty as charged and has been given a hefty sentence of 20 years in prison at the Olifantshoek Regional court on Monday (09 may 2011).

It is said that on 18 April 2016 the accused raped the 12 year old who was in company of her three friends.
It was then that the suspect accosted the victim and her friends at knifepoint into a veld where he forced them to undress.
The three friends managed to escape while the accused was busy raping the victim.
The accused then fled the scene subsequent to raping the victim, the girls who managed to escape then informed a passerby who then escorted them to a police station.
It is said that Evidence including DNA were collected by the investigating officer, Constable Pako Bele at the Kathu FCS Unit.
DNA results obtained positively linked the accused to the incident and was arrested on 25 January 2017 and was denied bail, he remained in custody until the finalisation of the trial.
“Brigadier Nicky Mills, the Provincial Head of the FCS unit in the Northern Cape commended the investigating officer for excellent investigative work, and for working in synergy with the National Prosecuting Authority and Department of Justice”.
The Olifantshoek Regional Court also declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm, and ordered that his name be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
