Quick action by police saves the life of a victim ~Eastern Cape
The speedy response of the Uitenhage K9 and SAPS Kwanobuhle and their immediate action led to a man’s life being saved from an angry mob and two suspects being arrested.
According to police information, the angry community members assaulted two men after accusing them of stealing. Whilst the incident took place, the Uitenhage K9 and SAPS Kwanobuhle were notified and the members were fast to respond. The police were met by two males lying tied on Alexander Road, Area 11 at 09:55 on 7 April 2022.
It is alleged that the group approached the SAPS members and attempted to prevent them from removing the victims from receiving medical attention.
Bricks and stones were said to have been thrown at the police members and their SAPS vehicles. The members managed to speed off from the scene with the injured victims, while the other SAPS members successfully apprehended two men on charges ranging from public violence, assault on officers, obstruction of justice and damage to state property.
The two suspects, aged 28 and 36 are due to appear in Kwanobuhle Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 11 April 2022.
Both the victims are said to have been hospitalized but unfortunately, one of the males aged 35, succumbed to his injuries. The name of the deceased will be released once the formal identification was completed. A case of murder was opened and all possible leads will be followed up on to bring those involved to book.
Investigations are still continuing.
