Just after sunset, a businessman, aged 39-years-old was gunned down at his business premises in Bergville CBD. It is said that an off-duty officer who was sitting in his vehicle heard the sound of three gunshots before rushing to the scene. Upon arrival, the police officer noticed two men running on foot and chased them with his vehicle until they jumped over a fence. 

Not wanting to lose his suspects, the officer decided to carry the chase by foot. He soon was joined by three other police officers who also were off-duty.

The Bergville Station Commander quickly put together a team and backed her officers up. The private security officials also joined the chase. Two of the suspects were traced and they were arrested. A 9mm pistol was found in their possession with 5 rounds of ammunition in its magazine. 

The business man sadly passed away due to his injuries and both the suspects’, aged 20 are to make their appearance before the Bergville Magistrate’s Court tomorrow for murder. 

The response of the off-duty officers and the bravery of all those who were involved in chasing the suspects is highly commandable.
