Woman arrested for abandoning 1 day old baby

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on Monday for abandoning a newborn baby.

According to reports, it is said that on the 3rd of march 2022 two ladies were walking next to a school at college view, Bushbuckridge when they heard a baby crying in nearby bushes. 
The ladies walked closer to where the sound was coming from and that’s when they discovered an abandoned infant who was approximately a day old.
Police were alerted and the baby was taken to hospital whilst a case of child neglect was opened for investigation.
It is said that on Monday, 07 March 2022 the 27-year-old woman alluded to the fact that she was the mother of the infant and was immediately locked up and charged.
Yesterday (08 March 2022) she was taken to Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court for her appearance and the case was not enrolled pending investigation.
The child is still in hospital where she is being monitored meanwhile the probe continues.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela further made a clarion call to society for moral regeneration. “We believe it is paramount for families, traditional leaders, and spiritual leaders to assist in restoring the moral fibre of our society” commented the General.
