Eastern Cape: a 3-year-old boy burnt to death in a shack fire in Vitro street Barcelona in the Gelvandale policing pencil.
It is said that at approximately 01:10 am police responded to the scene after receiving a complaint about the fire. Fire brigades also responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire and the body of 3-year-old Elton was found.
Fortunately, the mother(34) of the boy along with her other 2 children aged 10 years old and 5 months old managed to escape.
The mother sustained burns on her arms and back while her 10-year-old girl sustained burns to her arm and leg. The 5-month-old baby sustained minor scratches and all of them have since been taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is suspected that a burning candle might have caused the fire and police have since opened an inquest for further investigation.
