Every South African is entitled to health care but the state at the Khayelitsha district hospital us entirely heartbreaking as asthma patients were seen sleeping on the floor.
in a footage by Cape times the footage shows some patients sleeping on the floor with ventilators attached and some are even sleeping upright on their chairs .
This is the second scandal Khayelitsha hospital after the first one in 2018 which was the Sigogo petition in Parliament. The petition dealt with an alleged cover-up regarding reported maladministration, nepotism, fraud, poor working conditions and victimisation of employees.
It is said that the huge influx is caused by the decision to direct patients from emfuleni to Khayelitsha district hospital instead of the Eerste River Hospital .
It is clear that the Khayelitsha hospital cannot handle too many patients as their trolley area also accomodates patients who cannot sit on a chair while waiting to be admitted or discharged.
Another reason for this is that the medical practitioners are understaffed.
