Sexual violence is one of South Africa’s most concerning crimes. Every day, women, children, and men are sexually assaulted in various incidents.
A 61-year-old woman whose identity is being withheld for various reasons could have been one of the sexual assault statistics, but her goat saved her.
After a man attempted to break into her home in Mthunzini, KZN, the woman fought for her life. The perpetrators allegedly sexually assaulted her goat before attempting to break into the house.
The goat made a noise that caused concern on its own, so the 61-year-old woman awoke and went outside to see what was going on.
She was surprised to see a man attempting to break into her home. She screamed for help, and the community responded in force.
Since then, the community has beaten the suspect until he died. They killed him with stones and bricks and then set him on fire.
