KZN- On the 25th of March 2022 a missing person docket was opened at Nquthu SAPS after a 17-year-old teen went missing.

Her whereabouts were unknown to her family members so the docket was later changed to kidnapping after an unknown suspect demanded R8 000 from the family.

This docket was assigned to the Dunde Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offence Unit (FSP) investigation, the team used all their available resources to try to crack the case, they then realized that the victim was kept at the U section in Umlazi.

A full investigation was put in place on the 6th of April 2022.

They had a close observation at the D section and U section in Umlazi, they found a suspicious house in a bushy area at Umlazi. The victim ran away after seeing the police at a nearby house.

The teen was then found under the influence of alcohol, she was taken together with the 15-year-old accomplice for questioning. 

She had been at her friend’s place for the weekend having fun as all her family members were worried about her. 

The videos were taken to create the impression that she was being held captive, in order to gain money from her family. They were both charged for extortion, conspiracy to commit an offence as well as defeating the ends of justice. The matter was not enrolled when they both appeared at the Nquthu Magistrate court on 8 April 2022.
