Identity of a rape suspect has been released.
The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offence is seeking the assistance of the community in helping them find a rape suspect who is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in mid-January 2022.
It is said that, on 19 January 2022, the victim was walking to her aunt’s house in Stanford Road near the bridge when she was approached by an unknown male who promised her remuneration if she were to assist him in selling cakes and pies.
The suspect allegedly tricked her into going with him to meet the person. As they walked further down Stanford Road, the suspect took her phone and pretended to be on a call. The teenager had no airtime and when that came to mind, she realized that she had been duped. When she wanted to leave, the suspect forced her into the bushes holding a knife at her and sexually assaulted her.
It is alleged she reported the assault to her aunt and a rape case was opened at SAPS Gelvandale.
A facial composition was compiled of the suspect and he is said to be a coloured man aged between 35 and 40 years old. He is also said to have a lump above his right eye. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a red t-shirt, black shorts with green and white lines. He is said to be dark in completion and is about 1.6m tall. He informed the victim that he is from Katanga.
