Unvaccinated students spend another night squatting at campus gates

Frustrated students of Durban University of Technology (DUT) have resorted to squatting outside the gates of the Steve Biko University campus after struggling to find accommodation.
Since Tuesday, the students have been sleeping outside waiting to be allocated accommodation but that has since not happened.
It is said by the university’s SRC that the students have not yet been allocated accomodation due to the vaccination mandate that was implemented by the institution at the beginning of the year.
The SRC’s former debuty chairperson, Mzomuhle Majozi said that they have been using the SRC Funds to the students that do not have accomodation but the funds have run out, hence the students are spending countless nights outside the premises.
DUT spokesperson, Alan Khan hadms denied the claims made by the SRC. He also added that some squatters were simply ‘walk-ins’ seeking space at DUJ.
