A 40-year-old man was hijacked shortly after assisting. Hitchhiker in Canelands in KZN on Thursday morning.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was called out to new Glasgow road in Canelands after receiving reports about the incident.

According to the victim he was returning to his residence in Hazelmere when he stopped and assisted a female hitchhiker who was walking on Vincent Dickerson road.

Moments after dropping off the hitchhiker on New Glasgow Road it was then that two armed suspects accosted the victim and robbed him of two cellphones, R1500 in cash, and bank cards before driving off in his white Opel Corsa bakkie (reg NJ 80255).

The hitchhiker is said to have also fled on foot and could not be located, it is unclear whether she was also an accomplice to the crime.
