Son sentenced to life in prison for matricide murder – Eastern Cape
A 53-year-old Bethelsdorp man will be spending his life in prison after he was convicted at Gqeberha High Court today for the murder of his mother in November 2019 and 15-years for robbing her. Peter Lyons was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of another man that was committed in 2006. 
Mabel Lyons was brutally murdered by her son in her home in Mpuko Street in Jacksonville on 27 November 2019. It is said that after suffocating her to death, he plundered the house taking with him her bank cards and the house keys. Around midnight, he allegedly withdrew R1 000 to buy alcohol and handed himself over to the Bethelsdorp Police the following day. 
Lyons also confessed to the murder of his landlord, Dennis Ogle aged 59 who was murdered in March 2006. Ogle was sadly strangled prior to an altercation he had with Lyons. 
After being arrested for his mother’s murder, Lyons was also charged for the murder of the landlord. 
On Wednesday, the 23 March 2022, Lyons was convicted and sentenced. The 15 and 20 years will run concurrently with the life sentence for murder.

    I feel like the Lyons guy deserves a life sentence, he killed two people and 15 to 20 years in prison is all he gets.
